SHINRIN-YOKU

WHAT IS FOREST BATHING?

Forest bathing originated in Japan and became known as "Shinrin-Yoku imprinted. Forest bathing is not about hugging a tree or taking a bath. Rather, it is about consciously immersing oneself in the forest atmosphere. You consciously spend time in the forest and perceive it with all your senses (smell, listen, see, taste, feel). Carefully selected methods of mindfulness, meditation and body awareness help you to slow down, arrive in the here and now and recharge your energy reserves.

In Japan, forest bathing is already an integral part of preventive health care and is a recognised method for relaxation and stress management.

Leave everyday life behind, slow down and recharge.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FOREST BATHING AND A WALK?

An essential difference to walking or hiking is the walking speed. Forest bathing is not about getting from A to B (as quickly as possible), but about perceiving nature consciously and with mindfulness. You don't cover long distances, but about 500 metres in 2.5 hours.

FOREST BATHING AND SCIENCE

The positive effect of forest bathing is by no means superstition, but a scientifically founded relaxation method in and with nature. Forest bathing has been an officially recognised part of preventive health care in Japan and other Asian countries for more than 20 years.. Since there are particularly many health-promoting factors in the forest, such as terpenes, fresh air, gentle incidence of light, microbes, etc., spending time in the forest has demonstrably positive effects on our health:

  • Lowering the blood sugar level
  • Improved immune defence
  • Increase of the well-being
  • Stress reduction
  • Lowering the blood pressure
